Join us for the first VIC Branch Dinner Meeting of 2024. A deep dive into asbestos related lung disease and a review of an innovative new model of care for malignant pleural effusions.

Time: From 6:30pm for a 7pm start, 9pm finish

Speakers: Professor Fraser Brims and Kirstin Tirant

Professor Fraser Brims will present 'Lessons from the legacy of Asbestos in WA.'

Professor Fraser Brims, Consultant Respiratory Physician, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, 
Professor Fraser Brims is one of Australia’s leading clinican-reseachers in the field of Respiratory Medicine. His many achievements include:

Being a founding professor of the Curtin University Medical School; 

Head Of Unit of the Respiratory Department at The Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth; 

Deputy Director of the Institute for Respiratory Health. 

Chair of the Western Australian Mesothelioma Registry.

Founder of LUCAP - The Lung Cancer Clinical Quality Data Platform. 

His main research interests include clinical and epidemiological aspects of occupation lung disease, with a special focus on asbestos related lung disease and mesothelioma.


Kirstin Tirant will present 'Transforming & delivering innovative care for Pleural Disease: Insights from a Pleural Nurse'

Kirstin Tirant, Pleural Clinical Nurse Consultant (Northern Health)
Kirstin works as the Pleural Clinical Nurse Consultant within the Pleural Medicine Unit at the Northern Hospital. She is currently completing a Masters of Nurse Practitioner in line with the Unit’s vision to both provide and lead a transformative and innovative shift in pleural disease management, ensuring the provision of evidence-based and patient-centred care. 


Registrations and notice of dietary requirements are essential. Registration will close on Monday 26 February 2024.
